Tulips

2023.04.28.

One day, it so happened that the telescope's lens was pointed towards the constellation Cygnus, rich in nebulae.
And of course, astronomers have taken beautiful pictures in the field of stars scattered along the plane of the Milky Way and framing a bright area of radiation.
But how does this information relate to tulips, you ask...
So, among astronomers, this space object is known as the Tulip nebula. This glowing red cloud of interstellar gas and dust was catalogued in 1959 by astronomer Stuart Sharpless as Sh2-101.
The cosmic tulip blooms in the area of the center of the image, and it is located at a distance of 8000 light-years from Earth. The length of this complex and beautiful nebula is about 70 light-years. Ultraviolet radiation from young, energetically strong O-class stars at the edge of the Cygnus OB3 association ionizes atoms and activates radiation from Sh2-101.
